finally installing ubuntu
Going on with my obsession to install Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon.
After going through these two hurdles.
I have found a solution to my DVD burner problem.
It’s called WUBI. (Windows Based Ubuntu Installer)
You can install Ubuntu while working on Windows.
“Wubi adds an entry to the Windows boot menu which allows you to run Linux.Ubuntu is installed within a file in the windows file system ( c:wubidiskssystem.virtual.disk ), this file is seen by Linux as a real hard disk.”
Hopefully this works.
Edit: Still not installed. Waiting for WUBI for Gutsy Gibbon to come out.

Umm…not so sure about that…btw the one your installing with WUBI right is 7.04…7.10 is the latest version…they havn’t made one for 7.10 (gutsy gibbon) yet…will be out in a week though…but you can still upgrade from 7.04…and yeah it’s a pretty cool application…make it a whole lot easier for everyone

Gud luck man. Ubuntu is really nice. Even the partition manager during installation is quite easy. You could do simply ANYTHING with your disk partitions. It supports much more formats than windows.
Yea, ubuntu has some really cool apps coming with it. I likes the Open Office suite.
The worst point where windows sucks is that if you install windows AFTER installing ubuntu, windows will overwrite all the boot menu entries and you wont find ubuntu anymore. Great trick huh.

yeah i used edgy before and it wasn’t worth changing the os for yet…but you can change the boot.ini. file right…you have to make GRUB work again

there’s a lil problem though (which u’ll only face if installed Ubuntu on a portable HDD)… everytime i start the comp, i’ve to put the disk drive letter manually… it’s not much work really… but u know how lazy i am
anyway i jsut installed 7.04 as a test… when the new version of Wubi comes out i’m gonna install it on the local disk…
