LOST - Confirmed Dead

February 8, 2008

Who is confirmed dead you ask? Why Naomi of course. How was she confirmed dead? By a person who can communicate with the dead who used to work officially as a ‘Ghost Buster’. LOST gets weirder and weirder and I’m loving it! This was a much better episode than the first episode. It’s not because the first episode was a bad episode in any instance. It’s because LOST is outdoing itself in each episode. Maybe that’s the advantage of having a sixteen episode season. No more filler; non-stop questions asked with most of it getting answered.

This week we got introduced to the people from the Freight who parachuted to the island with each one having an important flash back so we knew more about them. Each of them is like a surprise package and I already like two of the characters.

We were first introduced to Daniel Faraday; descendent of Michael Faraday, the famous physicist? Incidentally Dan is a physicist as well. Coincidence? Me thinks not. LOST has a thing for naming their characters after famous people in history such as John Locke and biblical characters such as Benjamin and Jacob. Dan is first seen in a flashback which shows an alternate crash site of Oceanic Flight 815. It’s discovered somewhere near Indonesia under the sea. I’ve got a theory about this alternate crash which I’ll talk about later. For some reason that Dan doesn’t know he can’t help crying after seeing the news. Then we cut to the LOST black screen and letters, which were about three seconds late than usual I might add. You never know with LOST, even that could be a clue and I did find that somewhat odd. Dan is somewhat of klutz and most of the time pushed around by the other characters. He’s mostly fascinated by the island and seems to be observing everything with pure fascination. Now we finally have a scientist that can figure out what the hell is so special about that island. He says something pretty interesting while he was observing how the sunlight is streaming throughout the dense foliage of the jungle. He says the light doesn’t “scatter” quite right whatever the hell it means.

Dan, Jack and Kate start looking for the other people who jumped off when they finally meet Miles Straume. He’s the resident psychic that can communicate with the dead and a bit of a hot head. Wonder what would happen when Sawyer and him meets. They both have a thing for calling people names and with Miles he has already called Dan – Genius and Jack – Handsome.

Locke and his group meet up with Charlotte Staples Lews (as in C.S Lewis who wrote Chronicles of Narnia); a mysterious English woman who seems to know a lot more about Dharma then she lets on. In her flash back she is seen in Tunisia going through fossils of a polar bear in the desert and finds a dharma tag which makes give a cryptic smile. There’s something definitely suspicious about her and I don’t trust her one bit.

Now to the most interesting of all the helicopter ‘drop-outs’; Frank Lapidus. Get this! He was supposed to be the Captain of the Oceanic Flight 815 and for some reason he was replaced with another. Now this means there might be an ulterior motive for that. My theory is the replaced pilot was blackmailed/bribed into taking the plane to that location so that it might crash. Anyways Lapidus seems really down about the whole crash and he has even by hearted the passenger list before coming to the island. Lapidus seems to be a character like Locke; a man of faith, unlike Jack and Dan; men of science. This is getting really interesting.

Dan mentions that saving the 815er’s is not their first priority. We later learn that they are there to get Benjamin Linus. No wonder Ben didn’t want them coming to the island. Question is why do they want him? Why is he so important? I think that question will probably be answered next episode. But Ben has one over the Frieghties; he has an informant on the boat. So he knows all about the people that came to get him down to their parent’s names. Even though he is still tied up he is ruthless as ever with his tongue and I can’t help loving Ben. Who knows..he might even turn out to be one of the ‘good guys’ ;)

A lot else happened in the episode, we even got a flash back of Naomi with the guy who visited Hurley in his Flash Forward. Naomi was the person who was to get the people in and off the island or as she named them; the head case- Dan, ghost buster- Miles, anthropologist- Charlotte, drunk- Lapidus. And we also learned that Naomi doesn’t have a sister and that was a code to let them know she was in trouble. Long story short Miles somehow communicates with Naomi’s ghost and everything turns out fine, well until he meets Locke, which doesn’t happen in this episode.

So many things happened in this episode and I’m sure I’m going to miss a lot. Here’s a few interesting tid bit’s. Sawyer learns of “Tall Ghost Walt” as he calls him. Locke’s missing kidney actually saved his life. Ben tried to wind up Sawyer talking about Jack and Kate. Jack, Kate and Juliet shared a subtle love triangle moment. Ben and Locke were surprised that Hurley knew about Jacob’s cabin. And many more…

Now to the theory. Here’s the deal. Dharma was creating out some experiments with cloning rabbits in one of their orientation videos which I saw online. It’s something to do with time paradox or other dimensions, something like that. So when the plane crashed over the island due to the electromagnetic shock, somehow two planes were created down to the people. So the original people died. And the other people on the island are clones. That explains the wreakage footage shown in the first few minutes of the episode. It’s pretty farfetched but that’s what I’m going with at the moment.

Anyways great episode of LOST and next week we learn about another of the Oceanic Six with a flash forward. Can’t wait!

Oh and yes I think Ben’s informant on the Boat is none other than Michael. He is supposed to appear this season so what better way to get started.

the 100th post and other things..

February 4, 2008

So guys yeah this is my 100th post on this blog. First time I’ve ever reached that while blogging. I enjoy blogging so I’ll probably be here for awhile. At this point of writing site hits are at 23,991 over 8 months. Believe it or not 591 comments over these posts so roughly 6 comments per post. I guess that’s alright hehe. :P

Anyhow I’ve created another blog on wordpress. Link. It will mostly consist of chapters of a story that I had written for a competition. I actually think the concept is pretty cool even though the writing may be not that good. So check it out and let me know whether you like it or not. I’ll be posting a chapter once per day so you won’t get bored reading it.

On other matters Kina won the Dorito’s Crash the Superbowl contest. Yayyy! She got a record with Interscope and hopefully we’ll be seeing her soon on our favourite music channels. ;) Congrats Kina and all the best in the future. Here’s the superbowl video. And you can check out the original video here.

So please don’t forgot to check out Riviera and leave your comments. Thanks :)

LOST – The Beginning of the End

February 1, 2008

The Beginning of the End is a fitting title to a great and emotional episode of LOST. The episode starts with a car chase and the person driving the vintage el camaro is revealed to be none other than post island Hurley yelling at the top of his voice “I’m one of the Oceanic Six!!”. Who are the Oceanic Six? My guess is the only six people that were able to escape from the island due to yet unknown reasons. Throughout the episode we learn that the “Oceanic Six” have been labeled as heroes and they are famous. So now we know that three of the fabled “Oceanic Six” are Jack, Kate and Hurley. The other three haven’t been revealed yet but I have some theories about who the other three are. We’ll get into that a bit later.

So in the Flash Forward we see that Hurley is having hallucinations of someone wearing a hood who is apparently under water chasing him. Care to guess who? He checks himself into a mental institution and gets surprising visits by three people. First being a creepy Oceanic Airlines attorney who asks Hurley whether “they” are still alive. Next being a well shaven Charlie wearing cool sun glasses who is apparently dead but still “here” telling Hurley that “they” needed him and he had to go back. Third being Jack making sure that Hurley didn’t spill the beans on whatever happened on the island. My guess is that the “Oceanic Six” left behind some of the other survivors or perhaps killed them to get off the island and the Oceanic Airlines has covered up the whole story making the “Oceanic Six” to be heroes thus them becoming famous. Jack looks to be ok; clean shaven and apparently doesn’t want to go back to the island, very much unlike the bearded Jack that drank and begged Kate to go back to the island. So this makes this Flash Forward apparently happening before the events of the season finale taking place. Which of course makes a lot of sense since the Flash Back’s never did follow a linear time line.

Onto the island; people were stricken with grief over Charlie’s death even Sawyer remaining glum faced and offering to talk to Hurley about Charlie’s death. It’s apparent how much the survivors loved Charlie when Hurley gave a big speech regarding him. That was one of the most heartwarming moments of the series. Charlie will be greatly missed. Hopefully he pops up once in awhile to give some advice to the survivors. After the speech the survivors split into two groups; team Jack and team Locke. Team Locke includes the people who does not want to be rescued after hearing about Charlie’s attempt to warn the survivors that it was “not Penny’s Boat”. Team Locke consists of Sawyer, Hurley, Claire, Aaron, Vincent, Danielle, Karl, Ben, Alex and some other survivors. Team Jack has Kate, Sun, Jin, Bernard, Rose, Desmond, Sayid, Juliet and some other survivors. I’m actually surprised by Desmond’s inclusion in team Jack. He was there with Charlie when he died and showed him the message but I think he’s going with his visions this time. This sets up the season fantastically as Locke’s group is going to the abandoned “Others” barracks to get off the radar of the people on the Freight.

Onto other weird matters such as Hurley getting lost in the jungle and seeing Jacob’s shack. Hurley encounters the shack and it followed him for awhile till he counted to five. Hurley actually saw someone on the rocking chair before he was frightened out of his wits by Locke’s eye. It was pretty creepy scene to say the least. Some people have blown up the picture of the person (above picture) on the rocking chair and it appears to be Christan (Jack’s father). Maybe he’s Jacob? He probably is. That’s a great reveal since we already know that Christan is not dead as Charlie is. More questions for later.

So going back to the Oceanic Six here’s my pick for the other three.

Ben (I think Ben takes the identity of one of the survivors and gets off the island later on and ends up in that coffin that Jack sees. That explains why no one visits him at the funeral.)

Sayid

Aaron (Kate is taking care of Aaron and he is the “He” she had to go back to in the season 3 finale.)

Weird choices I know but that’s my gut feeling. Who do you think are the Oceanic Six? Let me know your theories as well.

All in all a great episode setting it up nicely for the next seven episodes. Hopefully the strike ends by then and we get to see the other eight episodes. Cannot wait for next Thursday where we get to see the back story of the Freight people and apparently it’s a Flash Back.
